Raw Materials
G&M Socks uses the highest quality raw materials such as combed cotton, gassed mercerized cotton, virgin merino wool and natural silk.
Combed cotton
Combed cotton is an extremely soft and high quality version of cotton made by specially treating the cotton fibers before they are spun into yarn. As a general rule, combed cotton is slightly more expensive than conventional cotton. The extremely soft, strong material is ideal for making clothing which will be worn against the skin like socks do. If the textile used in a cotton product is combed cotton, it will usually be clearly identified.
Fil decosse cotton / gassed mercerized cotton
Gassed mercerized includes two more stages than combed cotton:
Mercerization is a treatment for cotton yarns that gives a silky sheen and strengthens them.
Gassed is a treatment for cotton yarns that have been exposed very rapidly to a hot gas flame. This process removes the excess lint of the yarn, giving it a brighter, smoother, slightly iridescent appearance.
Merino wool
One of the highest quality wools, merino wool is grown from merino sheep
Wool has a natural ability to breathe, ensuring you feel more comfortable over across a greater range of temperatures.
Wool has unique water absorption capabilities. Wool can absorb up to one third its weight in moisture before it begins to feel wet.
Mulberry Silk
Silk is a natural proteinfibre and is one of the strongest natural fibers.
Silk is the most luxurious fiber.
Mulberry silk is the highest quality silk on the market.
It is made from silkworms that are raised in captivity under exacting conditions.
